Visiting Aberdeen
Hello everyone, we wanted to give you an update on my parents visit out here. Thus far the weather has been very...um....Scottish. Although yesterday was nice, and so we packed it with fun. This will be a very picture-laden blog, so here we go.
First, we walked over to St. Machars Cathedral, which I believe is also called "The Aberdeen Cathedral." We are not 100% sure on the dating, but I know that it pre-dates Kings College, and that was built in 1495. So we know that it is old. Here are some pics:
This pic is take from the back of the cathedral down the center aisle. Along the pews on each side are very large stone pillars leading up to the front.
On the outside of the pillars there are tombs (behind Kel and Dad) and an effigy from 1492.
The ceiling in St. Machars is incredible. It is all wood, and has the shields of Scotland placed at all of the connecting points. It is pretty awesome looking.
Here is dad taking a look at some of the stain glass. Well, there are a lot more pics and a lot more that we did yesterday, but it will have to wait for another blog. We are having fun in the rain! Thanks for checking out the blog! kyle
