I walked my socks off!!

Our first visitors are coming on Monday, so I've been out exploring to discover what all there is to do in Aberdeen. A few days ago the weather was just lovely, unlike today, which I don't think the sun even has a chance to sneak out...rain, rain, and more rain. However, on the sunny day I ventured to some parks and found the most beautiful public garden (pictures to follow maybe next week). I returned home after my adventure and while taking off my shoes I noticed the heel portions of my socks where completely gone! The socks where the fun kind, with separate compartments for each toe...it was a sad moment...however, funny as well.

The next day I went to another park and then continued to the river pictured below. The picture is a little deceiving because it was actually taken last spring; and since our camera has died I figured I'd put up an old picture. So imagine the same scene without the flowers and with a slightly darker sky...and everything else was pretty much the same!

A sad day

Well, after many happy days, and after taking a lot of great pictures - Kelli and I had to put our digital camera to rest the other day. It was a sad moment, particularly because the camera was for free.

Sometime in New York, our little camera saw a glimpse of light and tried to make a run for it, or actually, more of a dive for it. After falling directly on the lens, there was no hope. Leaving the lack of hope aside, I attempted surgery. I'm not going to lie, there was sparking. Unfortunately, the sparking was not an attempt to use a defibrillator on the little guy, but might have had something to do with the rather large capacitor that powered the flash.

In any case, it was a lost cause. It was a good little camera, and it will be deeply missed. So, in honor of the bravery of our little 6 megapixal sony, we are going to take a moment of silence, and by silence I mean we are not going to have any pictures on this blog.

Be nice to your camera. One day, at a glimpse of freedom, it might jump.

Life in Aberdeen

So, as many of you know, Kelli has taken off for a couple of days. Actually, she will be gone for 5 nights total. She has only been gone for 2 days thus far, but that sadly, is the same amount of times I have burned myself since she's been gone. As if that wasn't bad enough, whenever I look at one of the burns I see the time I burned myself a year ago trying to do ironing for Kelli. The level of my inadequacies in everyday life is mind boggling.

On to other news, Kelli and I had a chance to make it out to the country side. Sadly, all the animals were put away and the bakery we were going to was closed, but we found this random and sweet chair made out of a tree for kelli to sit in.

So as you can see, that is pretty cool. The weather here has been a bit hit or miss. One day will be in the 50's and two days later it will be snowing. Fortunately we got these umbrellas for Christmas that won't fit inside out because of the crazy wind - here is me using one.

Unfortunately, this happened within 1 minute of opening it up. Fortunately though, it tends to work pretty well here. But I'm not sure an iron umbrella would hold up with some of the gusts we get.

Other than that, things are pretty much normal here. The weather has kept us on our toes, but it is better than in Chicago! (sorry Chicagoans).

From what I have heard thus far, kelli is having a good time in NY with her brother Danny, and hopefully the classes will go well. While she is gone I am working long days trying to get through several books right now. Other than that, all is well north of Moscow. Hopefully there will be more to tell you soon!

Thanks for checking in! kyle
