California

So I know a lot of you think we are stuck somewhere in Nevada. It is a bit ridiculous doing these blogs this far behind, but maybe once our life gets back to normal we will be on time with these things.

Our roadtrip was a success. We made it back to CA in one piece, and didn't have any real trouble on the way. It was good to see California again. For those of you who have never been to California here are some pics that might look a bit different from what you normally think California is.

We are oddly obsessed with inspections - though I sometimes think it is all for show.
We like our scary X-filesish windmills.
We have trains.
Some really bad drivers.
And our own method to the gas crisis.
All in all it is good to be back. We were able to visit with some friends from Aberdeen while we were here which was really fun, as well as go to a wedding of close friends. We look forward to being back in Scotland where we can finally get back to our "normal" lives (and where we look for oil in the Sea).

So that's it for our incredibly late road trip blogs. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers while we were on the road!

Nevada

Arizona: The rich man's Utah

When you are driving through the Southwest it is easy to imagine that at somepoint the people that moved there assumed that large rock formations would one day be worth their weight in gold. The same people, I imagine, who are clinging onto laserdisc and minidisc players, hoping that the market will turn.

That being said, Arizona has some incredibly beautiful parts. Mind you, we were in Arizona a whole hour on our trip, but here are some pics of what we saw.
So there's red rocks (or at least slightly pinkish rocks)...
Grey rocks...
and tan rocks...

I had to stop before this took a turn for the worse and turned into a slightly incoherent Dr. Seuss blog.

Well, at this point of the trip we were on our last day. Pretty hard to imagine looking back at it. At this point, we were REALLY looking forward to being home.

Utah: If only rocks were oil

And then there was Utah. When you drive through Utah (or at least when I drive through Utah), what comes to mind is the phrase that was certainly spoken more than once: "Really Brigham?" as well as: "You know Brig, if we turn these wagons southwest we could be in the OC?"

Here is a big rock.

You might think that this also looks like a camel, but you would be sadly mistaken. Clearly this is a formation of that crazy four-legged thing from Star Wars that has just been knocked down and is flat on its belly.
This is Area 51.
This is gratuitous.
And this is the famous gas station from when Rob and I drove out. Rob's gas needle was resting on the empty pin for about 30 minutes until we hit this place. Back then the drinks were a bit smaller.
So that was Utah...next stop, Arizona.

Colorado

Based on the picture content of this blog, there isn't much to say other than..."Ahh, Colorado." Take a look, I hope you will enjoy what we got to see.

This fine establishment that Kelli and I stopped at was actually a Dairy Queen. But what a view for a Dairy Queen huh? You can see me wriging my hands in anticipation for what was certainly a artery blocking good time.
I think this looks something like a camel that fell asleep... and then of course grew really big and turned into a rock formation. Yes, no, maybe?
